Fly fishing is marked by the specially made pole with string made from synthetic fibers and usually coated with plastic to give it weight. A “fly” is tied at the end: a small hook decorated to resemble local insects to attract the fish. Start in shallow water no higher than your knees. If one is used to fishing along the banks or from a small watercraft, it is a big change to actually be in the water as fly fishing requires. There is more than one story of how a person was lost due to currents pulling him off his feet, slipping on a rock and hitting his head, having the river or creek bed dissolve beneath his feet or stepping into a hole and having his waders fill with water.

Along with starting out in easy-to-access shallow waters, it is advisable to use a walking stick that floats and is attached to your body with a lanyard. Many a fisherman has been saved from a tumble into cold water by having a sturdy walking stick. There are plenty of collapsible varieties available at the sporting good outlets. Be sure it is rated to a strength to bear the weight it will have to endure.

Pick a place to fish far from trees. One of the most aggravating things for a new person exploring the wonders of fly fishing is to constantly have to pull line out of trees or losing that work-of-art fly to the branches and leaves of a tree. Those who have a bit of experience in the craft of fly fishing can maneuver their well-practiced casts under a canopy of trees. Wait until that level of casting expertise is gained before trying it.

Do not carry all of the new gear into the water. It is unlikely that a new fly fisherman will need all of that fancy tackle the first time out. Go lightweight with just the basics. Do not look like a tourist to the other folks fishing. And do not ever be embarrassed to ask for help or advice. One day it will be the new guy’s turn to laugh at the beginner he is trying to teach!

Practice that cast in a wide open area out of the water. Have a big back yard? Use it to practice that cast with dummy equipment that doesn’t have any hooks to snag Fido or the neighbor’s pesky eight year-old. This is the place to practice around trees too.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN! Everyone was a beginner once.

The first bait option when trout fishing is natural bait. Some possible natural baits are worms, minnows, fish eggs, insects, and larvae. Insects such as grasshoppers and crickets tend to be quite effective. Another bonus to using these is that they are not as easy for the fish to simply pick pieces off without getting hooked. This is one of the major problems with using worms when trout fishing. If you are going to use worms, make sure that you have them hooked at least twice and try to conceal the hook as much as possible. Insect larvae are very good trout bait, but you must be careful when casting because it is easy for this kind of bait to come off the hook.

Which bait you choose when fishing for trout really depends on your preferences as well as where you are fishing. Trout is a fun and popular fish to catch. When fishing, make sure that you choose the right bait for the situation.

The next step is dependent on your expertise and the water. If the water is running fast you should weight the lure to keep it under the surface. When the water is clear and low check to make sure it is cold. Trout don’t like warm water and will hide under banks to avoid it. In such a case you can again get good results with wet flies. When the water is running cold and clear it is an opportunity for the time of your life.

Rig for dry flies and flirt with the fish. You will find them anywhere in shoals, in riffles, waiting near the surface of deep pools, or (the lunkers) near the bottom of the pools. The key to success is to choose a place where you can use your equipment well.  Even though there will be fish everywhere, you should avoid places where you will have trouble casting.

There are three basic keys: the length and flexibility of your rod (it should be at least eight feet long and very light; the length and weight of your leader; and your ability to set the fly on the surface with very little disturbance. Your bait shop owner can recommend leaders and lines. The skill you need can be gained through lessons and practice.

A man by the name of Onesimus Ustonson began the first documented development in the history of bass fishing. He was the first bass fisherman to invent a multiplying fishing reel. Soon after the release of his invention, another inventor introduced a reel called the Shannon Twin Spinner. The latter is the basis for the spinner bait reels we have today.

The next progression in the history of bass fishing began with Roosevelt’s New Deal. Because so many dams were created during this period of time in an effort to harness electricity, quite a few recreational lakes were produced. These then became science experiments focused on culturing a variety of different bass fish. This was a major break-through for the sport.

After a newly invented nylon net was released in 1937, fishermen realized this material was also ideal for creating reinforced fishing line. Because so many new fishing products were being released, it sport fishing for bass became an incredibly addicting and much less frustrating past-time. The height of the history of bass fishing was defined by this influx of modern fishing equipment.

The history of bass fishing culminated in the early 90’s after people realized that the sport could also become a profitable endeaver. Since then, its popularity has risen considerably.

The summer heat makes the bass sluggish, so they go to deeper water. They are harder to catch, because you have more stuff to weed through to get them into your boat if you hook one. At night they hang out in more shallow waters because the water is cooler. Bass also like to hide to catch their prey. This is better done at night because during the day they also hide from their predators. Use dark lures at night so it will make an intriguing silhouette in the water. The noise if a rattle at night is magnified to the bass. The bass rely on their sense of sound at night since it will be so dark. A little light around your fishing area is good. Find a spot with lots of hiding spots for the bass. Fish it during the day, so you are familiar with the layout.

If you fish at night be sure to use plenty of insect repellent. All the mosquitoes and other bugs come out in full force at night. Make sure you have flashlights and other supplies you may need for night time fishing. You will also need the usual supplies boaters should have. Check with the park ranger or your local boating guide for a list of necessary items to carry in your boat.

2. Next, you need to know when it is optimal bass feeding time. Bass tend to be more aggressive when it is slightly raining. since this is when the bass are most aggressive, and are feeding you won’t really need to dress up your bait that much, i prefer to use a bright colored jig. Late spring is just after the bass mating season. This is when female bass, which are usually larger than the males, are feeding and are extremely aggressive.  I would recommend using a bait that resembles a small bass as the female may eat their young during this period

3. The third and by far the most useful tip for bass fishing is to know where to fish. both largemouth and smallmouth bass live in weed beds. It’s best to fish in thick weeded areas with lots of underwater foliage, like near a fallen tree.

Bass like it fast and furious, a common misconception is to reel in your lure slowly, let it sink and slowly reel it in again trying to outsmart the bass by making it look like an injured minnow or frog. Bass are much smarter than you think. Don’t bore them with a slow motion approach, wake them up with some excitement.

Casting for bass in Lilly pads are just as important as working your lure. Presentation is everything. Once you have your location, look well beyond the area you believe the bass to be hiding in. Now that you have your sights set on the distance beyond the point you intend to fish, cast your line out and off at an angle either to the right or left of the Lilly pads.

Now it’s time to catch some bass, When retrieving your lure reel in quickly without hesitation. Give the lure a few quick jerks and keep on reeling. Don’t think you are retrieving the lure so quickly the bass won’t have time to catch up with it. The bass respond to a fast action and will take your lure very quickly. Many a bass has been taken by accident, just when you think you need to make another cast and start quickly retrieving your lure that’s when you get a fish on.
