Irrespective of your place of choice, be it the deep waters of the open sea or the clear running waters of the fresh water rivers, you are bound to face challenges on every fishing trip. How you deal with the challenges depends on your fishing experience. The crux of solving every fishing problem is having the correct amount of patience and knowing the habits of the fish you are after.

It is important to get yourself well versed with the fishing laws of the place you plan to cast your line. Different places have different fishing rules and laws that need to be adhered to. It is also important to learn some fishing etiquette before you start t on a journey angling for the different fish at the various places in the countryside. Only then must you begin to learn the ways to use your fishing line and tackle.

If you want to make a success of your fishing hobby you must have the correct equipment for the job. You must know which fishing line is best suited for the particular fish you are after because getting the wrong fishing line will result in many problems such as lost catches and tangles popularly known as ‘birds nests’

Basically you will find that the market has 4 different kinds of fishing lines to offer. These are ‘monofilament’ braided, fluorocarbon and fused fishing lines.

Monofilament Fishing Line

This is by far the most popular fishing line on the market and has been around for many moons. This kind of fishing line is well suited for almost all fishing situations. There is only one problem with this kind of fishing line, it tends to stay the shape it is stored in. So when you unwind the line after some tine you will find that he line stays curled or ‘spooled’.

Braided Fishing Lines
This is the strongest fishing line available. They do not stretch and easy to see in the water as it floats easily. The disadvantage of this kind of line is its strength. It can cause serious abrasions on anything it rubs against such as the angers hands and fishing rod guides.

Fused Fishing Lines
These are very similar to the braided fishing lines with the only difference being the manufacturing process of the line. These are a number of filaments that are fused together with glue rather than being woven together. This makes it difficult to cut through with a sharp object and it also tends to slide around on the reel making it difficult to wind tightly. Fish can spot the line easily which makes catching them quite a challenge.

Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines
These are gaining popularity among as it is virtually invisible to the fish and easy to store. So, once you have experimented with all the four categories of fishing lines you are sure to choose the Fluorocarbon Fishing Line as your preferred fishing line.

When fishing Lilly pads for bass you will first want to examine the Lilly pads to make sure they are healthy and with no decay or spots. You will catch more bass hiding in healthy Lilly pads and you don’t want to spend your time just honing your casting and retrieving skills.

Bass like it fast and furious, a common misconception is to reel in your lure slowly, let it sink and slowly reel it in again trying to outsmart the bass by making it look like an injured minnow or frog. Bass are much smarter than you think. Don’t bore them with a slow motion approach, wake them up with some excitement.

Casting for bass in Lilly pads are just as important as working your lure. Presentation is everything. Once you have your location, look well beyond the area you believe the bass to be hiding in. Now that you have your sights set on the distance beyond the point you intend to fish, cast your line out and off at an angle either to the right or left of the Lilly pads.

Now it’s time to catch some bass, When retrieving your lure reel in quickly without hesitation. Give the lure a few quick jerks and keep on reeling. Don’t think you are retrieving the lure so quickly the bass won’t have time to catch up with it. The bass respond to a fast action and will take your lure very quickly. Many a bass has been taken by accident, just when you think you need to make another cast and start quickly retrieving your lure that’s when you get a fish on.

Fishing for bass in Lilly pads can make for a fun and exciting day. Now go out and enjoy a day of fishing those Lilly pads.

Most fishermen know that there are a variety of baits out there for different fish. Different species of fish prefer different foods. These are some of the best baits to use when fishing for trout.

The first bait option when trout fishing is natural bait. Some possible natural baits are worms, minnows, fish eggs, insects, and larvae. Insects such as grasshoppers and crickets tend to be quite effective. Another bonus to using these is that they are not as easy for the fish to simply pick pieces off without getting hooked. This is one of the major problems with using worms when trout fishing. If you are going to use worms, make sure that you have them hooked at least twice and try to conceal the hook as much as possible. Insect larvae are very good trout bait, but you must be careful when casting because it is easy for this kind of bait to come off the hook.

There are also several prepared trout baits. Many of these includes, cheese, marshmallows, cereals, and kernels of corn. Berkley Power Bait is one popular kind of prepared bait. These kinds of baits are especially effective in stocked ponds because these fish have likely eaten similar items in the past. In many cases prepared baits are better for stocked fishing, while live natural baits are often better in more natural settings.

Which bait you choose when fishing for trout really depends on your preferences as well as where you are fishing. Trout is a fun and popular fish to catch. When fishing, make sure that you choose the right bait for the situation.

Today a widely popular sport, fly fishing is nearly as ancient as the history of fishing itself. Claudius Aelianus, who lived in the second century AD, wrote how the Macedonians would fish using a method of long poles and equally long string, at the end of which was attached a fly made from feathers and red wool fashioned to a hook. Before Claudius, Marcus Valerius Martialis wrote of a fish being caught with “fraudful flies”, a faint but distinct reference to fly fishing.

Fly fishing is marked by the specially made pole with string made from synthetic fibers and usually coated with plastic to give it weight. A “fly” is tied at the end: a small hook decorated to resemble local insects to attract the fish. Over time, both the sport itself as well as the gear used was modified to adapt to territory or the fish being caught; also, better methods were introduced in technique and in manufacturing of the poles and flies, to ensure a more successful fishing experience.

Originally, rods were made of wood, resulting in bulky, heavy poles which were difficult to maneuver.

To adapt, manufacturers in the West shortened the poles and engineered a system of reels for the line. This achieved a more pleasant experience in fishing while still retaining the system of fly fishing. In Japan, however, the poles are fashioned from bamboo, which is plenteous in the country. Because of the lightweight material, anglers had no problem with the length of the rods, and as a result fly fishing remains closer to its origins.

When it comes to fishing freshwater, the variety of fish that can be caught with minimal equipment is amazing.

When it comes to fishing freshwater, the variety of fish that can be caught with minimal equipment is amazing.

Fishing freshwater in Wisconsin you learn that you don’t need much in the way of bait and tackle to catch a surprising amount of fish. All you need is; a rod (this can be a good stick), line, hook, sinker, float (optional), and bait.

We all know that the best part of fishing is when you are actually catching fish. With just the little amount of equipment I mentioned it is not uncommon to go to a lake or river and catch; bass, blue gill, sunfish, crappie, bull heads, catfish, and many other species of fish.

Some of the best places to fish freshwater are on a river. The reason river fishing is so nice is that the variety of fish one can catch is amazing. Sitting on a river bank soaking a night crawler will allow you to catch almost any specie of freshwater fish.

I have spent many hours on the river banks and it is not uncommon for me to come home with a cooler full of fish. Like I mentioned earlier the different species are what makes it most appealing to me. You might catch a blue gill one minute, and then catch a 5 or 6 pound catfish with the next cast.

With the current of the river it helps attract fish to the area your fishing. The sent of the bait you are using can travel downstream and help bring those hunger fish to where you are fishing.

1. The most basic tip that every freshwater fisherman, pro or beginner, needs to know and abide by everytime they go fishing, is to make their bait look presentable whether it be by adding a soft-plastic trailer, or putting an artificial scent on it. both largemouth and smallmouth bass would be much more attracted to an in-line spin bait with a soft plastic trailer with a fishy stench radiating off of it than they would just an unscented, bland-colored float worm. You want to make sure your bait is visible to the fish either by using bright, day-glow colors, willow-leaf blades (if it’s a spinner bait) or a colorado blade for vibration, which a fish can sense through its lateral line sense.

2. Next, you need to know when it is optimal bass feeding time. Bass tend to be more aggressive when it is slightly raining. since this is when the bass are most aggressive, and are feeding you won’t really need to dress up your bait that much, i prefer to use a bright colored jig. Late spring is just after the bass mating season. This is when female bass, which are usually larger than the males, are feeding and are extremely aggressive. I would recommend using a bait that resembles a small bass as the female may eat their young during this period

3. The third and by far the most useful tip for bass fishing is to know where to fish. both largemouth and smallmouth bass live in weed beds. It’s best to fish in thick weeded areas with lots of underwater foliage, like near a fallen tree.

Anyone who has fished for trout more than once or twice knows that not any kind of tackle is good for any water condition. There are basically three kinds of water that can yield good results: high and roily, high and clear, or low and clear. If the water is high and roily you can use spinning gear with confidence. The key to success is to choose a bait that will both attract the fish and generate a strike. Some sort of spinner is recommended. These come in several configurations as you will see in any bait shop. Choose a spinner that is easy to control usually a small nickle plated one with beads to help it spin freely.

The next step is dependent on your expertise and the water. If the water is running fast you should weight the lure to keep it under the surface. If the water is slow then you can use the spinner alone with its bait. The bait can be a worm, beetle, or your choice of artificial bait. You may also use a brightly colored lure of almost any shape. Trial and error will determine which is best on any particular day.

If the water is high and clear you can also use spinning equipment. Just make it smaller and use it in close to overhangs and banks. Opt for fly fishing any time the water is clear. When the water is clear and running hard you can use wet flies with confidence. Just cast them above the pool you want to fish and let them drift down into the best water. When the water is clear and low check to make sure it is cold. Trout don’t like warm water and will hide under banks to avoid it. In such a case you can again get good results with wet flies. When the water is running cold and clear it is an opportunity for the time of your life.

Rig for dry flies and flirt with the fish. You will find them anywhere in shoals, in riffles, waiting near the surface of deep pools, or (the lunkers) near the bottom of the pools. The key to success is to choose a place where you can use your equipment well. Even though there will be fish everywhere, you should avoid places where you will have trouble casting.

There are three basic keys: the length and flexibility of your rod (it should be at least eight feet long and very light; the length and weight of your leader; and your ability to set the fly on the surface with very little disturbance. Your bait shop owner can recommend leaders and lines. The skill you need can be gained through lessons and practice.

To improve your fly fishing cast, take your rod out into a wide open area. Instead of putting fishing line as your leader, tie on a length of brightly colored yarn the same length as the rod itself. As you begin to cast, pulled the rod back even with your shoulder and then bring it gently forward. When the ride is at two o’clock position, you want to bring it down slightly with just enough power to roll the line forward so that the yarn touches the ground first.

While practicing, you want to make sure that you are not whipping the line too hard. If you do this while fishing, the cast may be so strong that it causes the fly to break off from the fishing line. You want to have the fishing line touch the water first is that the fish do not see the brightly colored main line on your rod. Practice using a controlled cast that has just enough power to put the fishing line on the water first.

By going outside and practicing your cast, over time you will find that you have greater control over the rod and where the fly lands in the past. It is crucial you go from a 12 o’clock to a 2 o’clock position consistently so that the movement becomes natural. Once you have got this simple cast down, you can progress to more advanced versions for different situations. Practice is the key to learning proper technique and form.
