Monofilament Fishing Line

Braided Fishing Lines

Fused Fishing Lines
These are very similar to the braided fishing lines with the only difference being the manufacturing process of the line. This makes it difficult to cut through with a sharp object and it also tends to slide around on the reel making it difficult to wind tightly. Fish can spot the line easily which makes catching them quite a challenge.

Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines

The first bait option when trout fishing is natural bait. Some possible natural baits are worms, minnows, fish eggs, insects, and larvae. Fishing freshwater in Wisconsin you learn that you don’t need much in the way of bait and tackle to catch a surprising amount of fish. All you need is; a rod (this can be a good stick), line, hook, sinker, float (optional), and bait.

We all know that the best part of fishing is when you are actually catching fish. With just the little amount of equipment I mentioned it is not uncommon to go to a lake or river and catch; bass, blue gill, sunfish, crappie, bull heads, catfish, and many other species of fish.

Some of the best places to fish freshwater are on a river. The reason river fishing is so nice is that the variety of fish one can catch is amazing. Sitting on a river bank soaking a night crawler will allow you to catch almost any specie of freshwater fish.

I have spent many hours on the river banks and it is not uncommon for me to come home with a cooler full of fish. Like I mentioned earlier the different species are what makes it most appealing to me. You might catch a blue gill one minute, and then catch a 5 or 6 pound catfish with the next cast.

With the current of the river it helps attract fish to the area your fishing. The sent of the bait you are using can travel downstream and help bring those hunger fish to where you are fishing.

2. Next, you need to know when it is optimal bass feeding time. Bass tend to be more aggressive when it is slightly raining. since this is when the bass are most aggressive, and are feeding you won’t really need to dress up your bait that much, i prefer to use a bright colored jig. Late spring is just after the bass mating season. This is when female bass, which are usually larger than the males, are feeding and are extremely aggressive.  I would recommend using a bait that resembles a small bass as the female may eat their young during this period

3. The third and by far the most useful tip for bass fishing is to know where to fish. both largemouth and smallmouth bass live in weed beds. It’s best to fish in thick weeded areas with lots of underwater foliage, like near a fallen tree.

The next step is dependent on your expertise and the water. If the water is running fast you should weight the lure to keep it under the surface. If the water is slow then you can use the spinner alone with its bait. The bait can be a worm, beetle, or your choice of artificial bait. You may also use a brightly colored lure of almost any shape. Trial and error will determine which is best on any particular day.

If the water is high and clear you can also use spinning equipment. Just make it smaller and use it in close to overhangs and banks. Opt for fly fishing any time the water is clear. When the water is clear and running hard you can use wet flies with confidence. Just cast them above the pool you want to fish and let them drift down into the best water. When the water is clear and low check to make sure it is cold. Trout don’t like warm water and will hide under banks to avoid it. In such a case you can again get good results with wet flies. When the water is running cold and clear it is an opportunity for the time of your life.

Rig for dry flies and flirt with the fish. You will find them anywhere in shoals, in riffles, waiting near the surface of deep pools, or (the lunkers) near the bottom of the pools. The key to success is to choose a place where you can use your equipment well.  Even though there will be fish everywhere, you should avoid places where you will have trouble casting.

There are three basic keys: the length and flexibility of your rod (it should be at least eight feet long and very light; the length and weight of your leader; and your ability to set the fly on the surface with very little disturbance. Your bait shop owner can recommend leaders and lines. The skill you need can be gained through lessons and practice.

While practicing, you want to make sure that you are not whipping the line too hard. If you do this while fishing, the cast may be so strong that it causes the fly to break off from the fishing line. You want to have the fishing line touch the water first is that the fish do not see the brightly colored main line on your rod. Practice using a controlled cast that has just enough power to put the fishing line on the water first.

By going outside and practicing your cast, over time you will find that you have greater control over the rod and where the fly lands in the past. It is crucial you go from a 12 o’clock to a 2 o’clock position consistently so that the movement becomes natural. Once you have got this simple cast down, you can progress to more advanced versions for different situations. Practice is the key to learning proper technique and form.
