The summer heat makes the bass sluggish, so they go to deeper water. They are harder to catch, because you have more stuff to weed through to get them into your boat if you hook one. At night they hang out in more shallow waters because the water is cooler. Bass also like to hide to catch their prey. This is better done at night because during the day they also hide from their predators. Use dark lures at night so it will make an intriguing silhouette in the water. The noise if a rattle at night is magnified to the bass. The bass rely on their sense of sound at night since it will be so dark. A little light around your fishing area is good. Find a spot with lots of hiding spots for the bass. Fish it during the day, so you are familiar with the layout.

If you fish at night be sure to use plenty of insect repellent. All the mosquitoes and other bugs come out in full force at night. Make sure you have flashlights and other supplies you may need for night time fishing. You will also need the usual supplies boaters should have. Check with the park ranger or your local boating guide for a list of necessary items to carry in your boat.
